While on vacation you may want to do almost every thing unfamiliar. We've all been there at least one time or another in our lives, thinking you might just not make it back into that region again.

Quite frankly in the beginning I hated sailing. In fact I always wondered how in the world do sailors get any excitement just by wraping a sheet around an old can and commiting it to the wind.

My questions were addressed when the 12 Metre guys decided to host the first ever inter resort championships here on the island. Guess what. I was chosen to be a member of the team at my resort.

All the arrangements were made and we were ready to hit the water. Well, let me first tell you that my only interest I had on being on the team was the idea to get that free day away from work... "ooops" did I say that?

12 Metre Regatta - The Excitement Rises to an All Time High...

We arrived for an afternoon sail and by then the excitement had risen to its heights. The competition was already there so you can just imagine the noise and the harmless threats that were exchanged.

Anyway, we were given a 12 metre introduction by a tall big framed man named Steve who immediately took control of the crowd with his natural entertaining character.

Steve is incredible at doing what he does and even way before we're whisked off to the sail boats by tender the hype was soaring through ozone layer.

By then everyone was in their competitive spirits and had been transferred to their respective sail boats. The assignments were made for duty on board and off we went to the ocean.

On every trip there's even an assignment for the cooler queen. “Just sit and serve drinks” By the way, no experience needed.

You've even got the option to just sit and observe. There is a crew on board and all you need to do is follow directions.

From that point on I was already convinced that it was something that I would talk about for a long time to come.

The fun excitement and laughter just got better and better as the day went on.

If you think that this form of sailing is not interesting, think again. I guarantee you that there is enough to learn from the entire experience to cause you to buy a sail boat.

Terminology on the boat was quite different from that on land. Activity onboard was almost non stop as the crew winched and winched in an effort to catch the wind in the sail at the precise moment to facilitate proper tacking.

This activity makes even the most unsocial group of people act like a happy group of teenaged kids at Six Flags Great Adventure. I recommend it as therapy for depression.

Now not only did I have fun on that trip but my resort was the first ever champions of that new competition. I'll do that again in a heart beat.

Once back at the docks we were awarded a trophy and of course the rum punch party began. Of course, I had to purchase the popular 12 metre regatta T shirt.
